Human factors examines the relationship between human beings and the systems with which they interact by focusing on improving efficiency, creativity, productivity and job satisfaction, with the goal of minimizing errors. A lack of knowledge about human factors and failure to apply human factors principles is a key aspect of many adverse events in health care. Therefore, all health-care professionals, clinical and non-clinical, should have a basic understanding of human factors principles Course Objectives:

Participants will hopefully be left with an emotional connection between learning, their work environment and teams enabling them to make suggestions for improving processes to make things safer for each other and patients, thereby improving the safety culture within the organisation. The learning can be used as evidence for revalidation/appraisals, continual professional development and sharing learning. Participants will understand how human factors can affect the care they provide patients. They will leave with practical tools that can be readily applied to everyday practice. Participants will also have access to support and further developmental material. |
